Google Plus, the social media platform owned by Google, the profile of authors was a great way to declare authorship with Google. Now in the era of Rich Snippets in search engine results, acquiring Author rank with Google is easier and real.
Does SEO Authorship still matters?
Yes, it does even in 2022. The only thing that is changed is the way of declaring authorship and Google’s expectation from reputed authors.
History of Authorship Updates
Initially when authorship was introduced by Google in 2011, the published authors were supposed to sign up with Google+.
Reputed authors had to maintain their profiles and connect it with their web content via rel=author attributes. In August 2014, Google announced that it is not going to consider author’s profile anymore for search results.
Next era of Google Authorship emerged with author’s markup which required webmasters to add authors markup data to each and every post of respective authors. Google picked out author details from the markup and used it in SERPs.
Having author markup was not enough.
Now when Rich snippets are ruling the best results in search engine results, Authorship markup needs to be more detailed.
Author’s Authority
Becoming a reputed author in Google’s eye is important. Getting ranked in Google News requires a great publisher’s authority as well as its authors’ authority.
What makes you a Good Author for Google?
Publish more original, useful, researched, and valuable content on multiple high authority websites to become a well-known author. It increases an author’s authority and eligibility to get his/her content shown in Google News or other Google publisher networks.
Will your content be ranked if you’re a new but a great author online?
It depends on the authority of web page where your content has been published. If the page where you published your high quality content is on a website with low authority then, some other author’s content on a web page with greater authority shall be shown at greater position in SERPs.
